CapMetro adjusts prices for Bikeshare, new rates kick off Aug. 1

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After receiving feedback from the community, those who use CapMetro Bikeshare will see a difference in price starting Friday.

“The adjustments expand eligibility for student discounts and include a simplified ride structure, making the service easier to understand and more inclusive for all riders,” CapMetro said in a news release.

CapMetro rolled out its Bikeshare fare program in June 2024. The system features 100% electric-assisted bikes and stations in Austin.

The table below, as provided by CapMetro, has a breakdown of current and new fare structure:

With the new structure, students who are eligible will qualify for the 50% discount on CapMetro’s annual passes, the release said. Those school and university include Austin Community College, Concordia, St. Edward’s, trade schools, nursing school and high schools.

The program “will continue to be fully subsidized for Huston-Tillotson students and staff, while the University of Texas at Austin will subsidize annual Bikeshare passes for its students and staff.”

CapMetro said there is a reduced rate for UT, which is $30 for students and $60 for staff.
