6 people dead in freak ‘dairy accident’ at Colorado farm
Six people died in a freak “dairy accident” in Colorado on Thursday, according to authorities.
Fire crews were called to rescue six people trapped in a confined space at Prospect Valley Dairy in Keenesburg at around 6 p.m. Thursday, according to a release from the Southeast Weld Fire Protection District.
“Crews responded and took appropriate precautions to enter the confined space to perform rescue operations. Unfortunately, District personnel recovered six deceased individuals from the space.”
The Weld County Coroner’s Office stated preliminary findings indicated the victims, who were all men, were exposed to a deadly gas at the dairy farm, CBS News reported.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the incident, Denver 7 reported.
Dairy Farmers of America mourned the men.
“We can confirm that a tragic accident occurred on one of our member farms in Keenesburg, Colo., which has resulted in the death of six people,” the organization said in a statement, per Denver 7.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts and most sincere condolences go out to the friends and families of the deceased.”
Keenesburg is located 41 miles northeast of Denver.
