2 arrested in Williamson County after 'significant residential fire'

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two people were arrested in connection with an arson case that happened in May in Williamson County, according to a news release from the county.

The county said the Williamson County Fire Marshal’s Office began investigating “a significant residential structure fire in the unincorporated area of Williamson County” on May 8.

The Williamson County Fire Marshal’s Office “collaborated with fire marshals and investigators from Hutto, Liberty Hill and the State Fire Marshal’s Office to address the incident, which was determined to be an arson case.”

According to officials, the first suspect “sustained burns during the act, confessed to starting the fire,” which then led to getting an arrest warrant for his arrest. He remained in the Williamson County jail, as of Wednesday. Additionally, the second suspect was arrested in Barlett and taken to the Williamson County jail. He also remained in the jail, as of Wednesday.

“Fostering partnerships with our local, state and federal agencies is another critical part of what we do,” said Williamson County Fire Marshal Chief Lugo in the release. “This enhances our ability to effectively respond to and manage fire-related and hazardous materials incidents. Together, we can leverage more resources to apply to the given situation.”

The case remained under investigation Wednesday.
