Winston Duke Set To Lead Audible Thriller Series ‘Kingsland’ From Kevin Hart & Charlamagne Tha God’s SBH Productions
Winston Duke will lead Kingsland, the fifth drama series that Kevin Hart and Charlamagne Tha God‘s audio production company has made for Audible.
Duke (Black Panther, Us) will play seasoned investigator Jamison Wright in the thriller, alongside Yara Martinez, who plays Roxanne Wright. Also starring are Joniece Abbott-Pratt, Jason George, Joe Morton and Jabari Banks.
Hart and Charlamagne are executive producers, with a producer team of Karen Kinney, Marc Gerald, Mike Stein and Nicole Shelton, who is the director. Dwayne Alexander Smith (Edge of Fear, Triple Threat) is the writer. All nine episodes are now available on audio platform Audible.
Per the synopsis, the story follows a fictional sovereign Black nation located just seven miles off the coast of Georgia. Funded by a landmark U.S. Reparations Act and founded as a haven for African Americans, Kingsland has, in just a decade, become one of the wealthiest and most exclusive countries in the world. As the nation prepares to mark its tenth anniversary, it is suddenly rattled by a series of brutal lynchings, shattering its image of perfection and igniting a high-stakes manhunt for a serial killer.
Wright plays an investigator assigned to the case, who has to navigate the island’s elite political circles, long-buried secrets and the growing unrest that could unravel the country’s carefully constructed identity.
“There are many social and political themes in the series that reflect real-life issues, and my character, while layered and complex, is ultimately just human,” said Duke.
“The series explores themes of race, power, marriage, and morality in a new and exciting way,” said writer Smith, whose debut novel Forty Acres from 2014 is currently in development as a feature film at Netflix. “I am grateful that Kevin, Charlamagne and team saw my vision and helped bring it to life with an amazing cast. I am excited for listeners to be transported to Kingsland.”
For comedian actor Hart and radio host and media mogul Charlamagne, their SBH (Short Black & Handsome) Productions is the fifth they’ve produced for Audible after striking a multi-project development, production and audio licensing deal back in 2022. Previous dramas from the deal include Finding Tamika, Summer of ‘85, Brokedown Prophets and Unleash For Love.
“Kingsland is our fifth project with Audible, and we believe listeners are going to be pulled in right away,” said Charlamagne. “This was a true team effort, and SBH Productions is proud to keep telling bold, impactful stories.”
“We are beyond excited about Kingsland,” added Hart. “It’s a powerful example of SBH’s dedication to delivering meaningful, top tier storytelling through sound. Everyone brought their A-game and poured their heart into this series. The passion behind it is real, and we can’t wait for listeners to experience what we’ve built together.”
