Texas Longhorns add another defensive lineman through the transfer portal
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas picked up another defensive lineman via the transfer portal, announcing the signing of Maraad Watson from Syracuse on Thursday.
Watson, rated a 4-star transfer by 247Sports, started 11 games at defensive tackle for the Orange in his freshman season with 31 tackles. He was named a freshman All-American by 247Sports. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 313 pounds.
Watson joins Lavon Johnson from Maryland as a defensive line transfer during the spring window. Hero Kanu joined the Longhorns from Ohio State after the Buckeyes won the national championship, while Travis Shaw (North Carolina) and Cole Brevard (Purdue) transferred in after their respective seasons were over.
Along with Watson and Johnson, the program officially announced the transfer signings of kicker Mason Shipley (Texas State), tight end Jack Endries (California) and wide receiver Emmett Mosley V (Stanford).
Place kicker Bert Auburn, one of the most prolific scoring kickers in Longhorns history, has committed to the Miami Hurricanes. He announced April 17 that he would transfer from Texas with one year of eligibility remaining. He’s the second-leading scoring kicker in Longhorns history, racking up 373 points while making 66 field goals.
Offensive lineman Malik Agbo has committed to West Virginia, and punter Michael Kern entered the portal following spring practices.
